Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:
Sunday, Dec. 31: At 1:04 pm staff at Wild Rose Casino requested officers to assist with an unruly female patron there. The officer made contact with the female and advised her that the casino wished for her to leave. She advised her friends had dropped her off and would not come back and get her. She had money for a room and the officer transported her to the Redwood Motel. At 2:42 pm an officer was requested at Wild Rose Casino for a reported theft.
The officer arrived and learned a female had briefly left her gaming machine and another female cashed out the remaining money on the machine. Video of the event was provided to the officer. Lorrie Leiann Lawrence, 59, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with theft- fifth degree (simple misdemeanor)*. At 6:22 pm an officer investigated a backing accident in the 300 block of Rushview Dr. Beth DeMoss of Jefferson backed from a private drive but struck a parted 2008 Toyota Corolla owned by Maurita Aubrey of Jefferson. DeMoss was cited for unsafe backing upon a highway. Damage to DeMoss’s vehicle was estimated at $1,000. Damage to Aubrey’s vehicle was estimated at $500.
Saturday, Dec. 30: At 1:31 pm an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the 300 block of W. Washington St but the driver refused to pull over. The vehicle continued to drive and eventually pulled into a parking lot at N. Elm and W. State Sts. The male driver began plowing snow in the parking lot, ignoring the officer. Ryan James Brown, 45, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with driving while barred (aggravated misdemeanor), and interference with official acts and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle (simple misdemeanors)*. At 2:47 pm a complainant reported someone in Chicago, IL, had used his information to open two checking accounts in Chicago. The subject had written checks that had come from the complainant’s account in Jefferson. The officer is investigating. At 3:03 pm staff at Hy-Vee reported a subject had been in the store that had been trespassed the previous month. The officer made contact with the subject at his residence. Jacob Mario Lopez of Jefferson was cited for trespass (simple misdemeanor)*.
Friday, Dec. 29: At 6:33 am Jefferson PD officers and a Department of Corrections probation officer executed a narcotics search warrant at 206 N. Oak St. Items were seized during the execution for testing purposes. Charges are pending. At 7:17 am an officer investigated a backing accident in the Hy-Vee parking lot. Kathy Davisson of Jefferson was backing her 2013 Ford F150 pickup truck from a parking space when she struck a 2006 Dodge Caravan owned by Tami Breheny of Jefferson. Damage to Breheny’s vehicle was estimated at $1,000. Damage to Davisson’s vehicle was estimated at $250. No citation was issued as the accident occurred on private property. At 8:31 am a caller advised of a stray dog pulling a broken chain behind it in the area of N. Grimmell Rd and W. Russell St. The officer caught the animal and returned it to the owner. The owner was given a time period to license the animal with the city. At 11:34 am staff at Midland Power advised of a stray cat at the office in the 1000 block of E. Lincoln Way. The officer placed the animal in the animal holding facility. The search warrant executed earlier in the day on N. Oak St included two subjects to be searched. At 3:19 pm officers located the subjects in a vehicle and performed a traffic stop at W. Central Ave and N. Grimmell Rd. During the execution of the search warrant items were seized for testing. Jesus Moses Zuniga, 18, and Justin Ray Lopez, 19, both of Jefferson, were arrested on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver (Class D felony)*.
Thursday, Dec. 28: At 8:58 am as a result of a traffic stop in the 800 block of W. Monroe St, Ryan James Brown, 45, of Jefferson was arrested for driving while license barred (aggravated misdemeanor)*. During the arrest, Brown resisted the officer and a Greene County deputy who was assisting. Brown threatened the officers as well. He was subsequently charged with disorderly conduct, interference with official acts and harassment of a public official (all simple misdemeanors)*. Suspected marijuana was also located in his vehicle. Brown was then charged with possession of a controlled substance- second offense*. At 2:44 pm a complainant reported tools stolen from a residence in the 200 block of N. Locust St. An officer is investigating. At 11:46 pm an officer responded to a residence in the 300 block of N. Olive St for a report of domestic assault. Upon arrival, officers determined it was a verbal argument. However, one of the individuals, Jody Carnes of Grimes, had an outstanding Polk County arrest warrant for domestic abuse assault. Carnes was placed under arrest and transported to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center where she was picked up by a Polk County deputy.
Wednesday, Dec. 27: At 9:33 am a complainant reported someone had been tampering with his vehicle in the 900 block of S. Cedar St. An officer is investigating. At 1:06 pm an officer responded to a property damage accident at the intersection of Elm St and W. Lincoln Way. Tiffany Johnson of Jefferson was operating her 2008 Chrysler Aspen traveling eastbound on Lincoln Way from the 4-way controlled intersection. Morgan Carroll of Granger was traveling northbound in her 2001 Kia Soul, traveling towards the controlled intersection. Carroll did not obey the stop sign and struck the front right corner of Johnson’s vehicle. Both vehicles sustained $500 in damages. Carroll was cited for fail to obey a stop or yield sign. At 11:14 pm officers responded to the 1500 block of S. Mulberry St. Edward Goff of Jefferson was operating a 2006 Ford Taurus traveling southbound on Mulberry St when he lost control and struck the bike trail bridge. The front of the vehicle sustained $3,000 in damages. Goff was cited for failure to maintain control.
Tuesday, Dec. 26: At 4:10 pm Genesis Development staff reported a theft of food valued at $100 from the refrigerator at Harrison House. An officer is investigating. **** As a result of an investigation initiated 12/21, an arrest warrant has been requested for James Kenneth Harris, 30, of Jefferson on a charge of violation of a no contact order (simple misdemeanor)*.

Sunday, Dec. 24: At 3:34 pm officers investigated an accident at N. Chestnut and E. Washington Sts. Vincent Kennedy of Jefferson was northbound on Chestnut driving his 2007 Toyota Camry. He left the posted stop sign at the intersection. Ryan Murphy, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer, was approaching the intersection and could not stop on the snow packed roadway. Murphy struck the Kennedy vehicle in the intersection. The Kennedy vehicle had disabling damages and was towed from the scene. The officer estimated damage to the vehicle at $1,000 to the passenger side. The Murphy vehicle had a reported $300 in front end damages. Kennedy was cited for fail to yield to vehicle on right.
Saturday, Dec. 23: At 2:11 am an officer initiated a traffic stop of a speeding vehicle in the 300 block of W. Central Ave. During the event, the officer could smell marijuana inside the vehicle. During a probable cause search, the officer seized a small amount of a green leafy substance to be tested. Lucas Ausberger of Jefferson was issued a citation for excessive speed. Future charges for Ausberger and a passenger are pending lab results of the seized items. At 10:04 am a complainant advised of a vehicle in the ditch at Highway 30 and M Ave. The complainant advised a male was in the vehicle and was not responding to him. The officer and a deputy arrived and made contact with the male. During the encounter, the officer could smell the odor of marijuana in the vehicle. The male was transported by Greene County EMS to the Greene County Medical Center emergency room. During a probable cause search of the vehicle, the officer located a smoking device and green leafy substance. The items were seized for lab testing. The officer went to ER and read the male an implied consent advisory. A specimen of urine was collected by the officer to be tested. Charges are pending the outcome of lab testing on the urine and seized items. At 10:55 am a Greene County dispatcher reported receiving numerous 911 calls from a male juvenile using profanity towards her. The officer’s investigation took him to a residence in the 300 block of S. Pinet St. The officer sent juvenile charges to the juvenile court for an 11-year old male for false report-911 call.*
Friday, Dec. 22: At 1:23 pm an officer investigated an accident involving a DOT snow plow truck and a 2015 F150 pickup truck at Highway 30 and Grimmell Road. Steven White of Churdan was driving the snow plow truck westbound on Highway 30. He activated his turn signal and attempted to turn left on to Grimmell Road. Denise Clark of Durant, driving the pickup truck, attempted to pass White as he made the turn. The snow blade made contact with the passenger side of the F150, stripping the entire side of the sheet metal. The DOT vehicle did not receive damages, while the Clark vehicle was a total loss. Clark was cited for unsafe passing. At 3:49 pm a complainant reported a driver doing “donuts” on the snow-covered streets had struck a mailbox in the 400 block of E. Wilcox Way. The officer’s investigation led to Kadrick Kinne of Jefferson being cited for reckless driving and violation of a minor’s school license. The officer estimated damage to the mail box and pole at $100. The Kinne vehicle had a reported $200 in hood damages. At 4:45 pm a traffic stop in the 100 block of Ram Drive led to the arrest of Christopher Adelbert Laurent, 48 of Jefferson for driving while barred (serious misdemeanor)*.
Thursday, Dec. 21: At 5:21 am officers were conducting a traffic stop in the 300 block of N. Elm St when a southbound vehicle passed them at a high rate of speed. The vehicle did not stop or slow down at the posted stop signs at Elm and Lincoln Way Street. The officer gave pursuit after the southbound vehicle. A Greene County deputy was south of Jefferson on Highway 4 when the call came out. The deputy was able to stop the vehicle after locking the radar at 91 mph. The vehicle stopped at Highway 4 and 265th St. The officers investigation led to the arrest of Shane Christopher Jewett, 49, of Paton for operating while intoxicated- first offense (serious misdemeanor)*. He was cited for open container of alcohol, speed, and failure to obey a stop sign. At 11:58 a resident reported being the victim of a domestic abuse assault at a residence in the 300 block of N. Chestnut St. The officer is investigating.
Wednesday, Dec. 20: At 6:36 pm Trisha Rutledge advised a truck had door dinged her vehicle and left the parking lot at Hy-Vee. The 2014 Nissan Pathfinder had a reported $100 scratch on the passenger’s door. A child was in the car and witnessed the other driver strike the vehicle with his door and drive away. He provided the officer with a plate number. Officers made contact with Chad Sloan, who was unaware he had struck the vehicle with his door. He provided officers with his insurance information for the report. At 8:40 pm officers investigated a backing accident that occurred in a private drive in the 1200 block of Southfield Drive. Both vehicles involved, a 2013 Toyota Highlander and a 2007 Dodge Caliber, are owned by Michael Ewalt of Jefferson, who was driving one of them. Combined damage was estimated at $3,000. At 11:13 pm a complainant reported being assaulted by a male at a residence in the 800 block of W. Mahlon St. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Rickie Eugene Tuhn, 56, of Grand Junction on a charge of harassment- third degree (simple misdemeanor)*.
Tuesday, Dec. 19: At 10:19 am Michelle Paradise requested officers at a residence in the 300 block of S. Pinet St for a domestic “situation” occurring between her and her boyfriend. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Michelle Lyn Paradise, 45, of Jefferson for domestic abuse assault- third offense (Class D felony)*. At 8:21 pm a complainant reported a lost/stolen wallet to an officer.
Monday, Dec. 18: At 8:59 am Mark Olson, owner of Oly’s Corner, located a credit card skimming device on one of the gas pumps there. The device was removed and turned over to police. Olson advised he last checked his pumps on 12/11, so the device was placed there after that date. It is unknown if any data was collected from the device. The officer is working with the DCI and other agencies that have formed a task force on skimmers. The business owner is reviewing video to try and obtain a suspect, or vehicle involved. At 3:55 pm a complainant reported the theft of a bicycle from the 200 block of N. Wilson. At 7:42 pm staff at Greene County Medical Center advised of a male subject sleeping in his vehicle there. The officer made contact with the homeless male from Michigan. He advised he had no choice but to sleep in his vehicle. The officer worked with a local clergy to secure a room at the Redwood for the subject for the evening.
Sunday, Dec. 17: At 8:01 am a complainant reported a stolen vehicle from a residence in the 100 block of E. Central Ave. She advised she loaned the vehicle to a friend, but he did not return it. She would not provide the officer with specifics and requested him not to come to her residence. She gave a name of the male friend to whom she had loaned the vehicle. At 8:23 the complainant called and advised the vehicle was back and the male was present but would not give her the keys. The officer went to the residence and spoke to the couple. The officer’s investigation showed the car had not been stolen. The male present was her live-in boyfriend. The complainant admitted she had fabricated the vehicle theft to get police to respond due to an argument with her boyfriend. The boyfriend, Jodi Lyn Schad, 42, of Jefferson had an outstanding Polk County arrest warrant. The officer placed him in custody for the warrant. The complainant, Jennifer Marie Ashby, 45, of Jefferson was arrested for false report to police (serious misdemeanor) and interference with official acts (simple misdemeanor)*. At 1:46 pm an officer took a complaint of sex assault from parents of a 14-year-old female. The reported event had occurred last week at a residence in the 200 block of N. Oak St. The officer is investigating.
Saturday, Dec. 16: At 11:28 am a complainant reported several bags of clothing being taken out of the bed of his pickup truck while it was parked in the 400 block of E. McKinley St.
Friday, Dec. 15: At 8:22 am staff Casey’s General Store (N. Elm St) reported receiving a counterfeit $20 bill. The officer is investigating. At 5:33 pm an officer investigated a car-deer accident in the 1400 block of S. Elm St. Megan Sheeder of Jefferson was northbound when she struck a deer. Damage to the vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze owned by Leo Sheeder of Jefferson, was estimated at $3,000.
Thursday, Dec. 14: At 9:18 am staff at Greene County Middle School requested an officer to remove an unruly student. The male juvenile was brought the LEC and picked up by his father. The officer sent a charge to the juvenile court for the 11-year-old male for disorderly conduct. The disruptive behavior of the student had caused a lock down at the school. At 4:37 pm an officer performed a traffic stop in the 200 block of N. West St for a passenger not wearing a seat belt. During the traffic stop the officer requested to search the vehicle and was given permission to do so. For officer safety, the officer patted the two subjects for weapons. During the pat down, the officer felt something in the driver’s pants pocket. The driver gave the item to the officer. The container had a green leafy substance inside of it and was seized for testing. Charges for the driver are pending lab results on the seized item.
Wednesday, Dec. 13: At 10:15 am a complainant reported criminal mischief had occurred to his vehicle overnight. A rear window had been broken out of the vehicle. The officer has no leads to follow. At 12:31 pm a complainant reported the theft of packages delivered to her residence in the 400 block of N. Oak St. The officer is working with a neighbor who has outside cameras to develop a suspect.
Tuesday, Dec. 12: At 2:23 pm staff at Home State bank reported receiving two counterfeit $20 bills in deposits made from Casey’s (N. Elm St). The officer is investigating. ***** A juvenile charge of theft- fifth degree has been sent to the juvenile court officer for a 15-year-old female from Grand Junction. The charge comes from an investigation into a stolen cell phone on 11/30/2017.
Monday, Dec. 11: At 12:02 pm an officer investigated an accident at Ram Drive and S. Elm St. Lakhbir Dhesian of Jefferson was driving his 2008 Toyota Tundra westbound on Ram Drive and stopped at the posted stop sign at Elm St. Zackary Schroeder of Scranton, who was driving a 2002 Jeep Wrangler owned by Francis Schroeder, struck the rear end of Dhesian’s vehicle. The Lakhbir vehicle suffered a reported $1000.00 in damages, while the Schroeder vehicle had a reported $200.00 in front end damage. Schroeder was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the vehicle he was driving was estimated at $200. Damage to Dhesian’s vehicle was estimated at $1,000. At 12:58 pm a complainant reported her vehicle was stolen from the downtown square. The officer located her vehicle on a different side of the square. She was mistaken on where she had parked. At 6:50 pm staff at Sparky’s One Stop requested an officer remove an unwanted female who had loitered there for several hours. The female convinced the officer her cell phone was at Wild Rose Casino and she needed it to call for a ride to Audubon. The officer drove the female to the casino. After dropping the female off at the casino, the officer learned she had been asked to leave the casino the previous night and was not allowed to come back. The officer arranged transport to the Carroll County line by a deputy. A Carroll County deputy took the female from there to the Audubon County line.

Saturday, Dec. 9: At 2:05 am a complainant reported criminal mischief occurring to his vehicle in the 400 block of N. Pinet St. The 1997 Pontiac Grand Am had a window broken out of it. Witnesses provided suspects to the officer. The investigation continues. It appears this was related to an $80 debt owed to a subject. At 10:20 am a complainant reported criminal mischief to a vehicle in the 300 block of N. Pinet St. A tire appeared to have been slashed on the vehicle. The officer is investigating. At 4:58 pm an officer performed a traffic stop in the 100 block of N. Grimmell Rd. During the stop, the officer detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver advised of a small amount of marijuana in his vehicle and allowed the officer to search for it. The item was seized for testing. Charges pending lab results. At 7:25 pm a resident brought to the LEC a stray dog she had located at S. Chestnut and E. Russell St. The animal was placed in the animal holding facility.
Friday, Dec. 8: At 8:04 am a complainant reported criminal mischief to a vehicle in the 900 block of N. Cedar St. The officer is investigating. At 12:13 pm an officer investigated a backing accident at Casey’s General Store (N. Elm St). Aaron Sloan of Jefferson was backing a 2015 Ford F150 pickup truck owned by Central Iowa Memorial from a parking space but made slight contact with a 23001 Ford Windstar owned by Michelle York and being driven by Donald York of Jefferson. The officer estimated damage to each vehicle at $500. The accident occurred on private property so no citations were issued. At 6:35 pm an officer investigated a car deer accident on Highway 30 near Sparky’s One Stop. Justin Davila of Denison was westbound driving a 2009 Dodge Avenger owned by Elizalda Demetrio of Dension when he struck the deer. The vehicle was a total loss and was towed from the scene.
Thursday, Dec. 7: At 10:08 am an officer removed a cat from a live trap in the 1300 block of Riverside Drive. The animal was placed in the animal holding facility. At 6:14 pm a complainant reported the theft of a cell phone from the Greene County Community Center. The officer is investigating.
Wednesday, Dec. 6: At 10:18 am an officer investigated a one vehicle property damage accident on the overpass in the 700 block of N. Elm St. Nicole Lebeck of Grand Juntion lost control of her 2002 Ford F150 pickup truck at the top of the overpass and struck the concrete barrier wall. The road conditions on the overpass were 100 percent ice covered. The vehicle sustained a reported $1,000 in damages. The officer estimated the damage to the barrier wall at $200. The DOT was advised of the road condition and sent sanding trucks to the area. At 5:10 pm a complainant reported a vehicle fire in the 100 block of E. Central Ave. Officers arrived and extinguished the small dash fire.
Tuesday, Dec. 5: *****Juvenile arrest warrants have been requested for two 13-year-old males after the officer completed the investigation of an assault 11/25 at 10 pm at Xtreme Skate Center. The warrants are for assault causing injury (serious misdemeanor)*. ***** The officer investigating the theft of gift cards at a residence in the 200 block of E. Harrison reported on 11/21. Arrest warrants have been requested for Cindy Jo Sheehy, 56, of Grand Junction for unauthorized use of credit card (aggravated misdemeanor), dependent adult abuse (Class D felony) and theft- fifth degree (simple misdemeanor)*. ***** Arrest warrants have been requested for Cody James Schulte, 29, of Lytton for three counts of forgery (Class D felony) and ongoing criminal conduct (Class B felony)*. The charges come from a case of check fraud at Casey’s (N. Elm) that was initiated 11/27. *****An arrest warrant has been requested for Jacob Mario Lopez, 23, of Jefferson for theft- fifth degree* related to a reported theft of alcohol from Hy-Vee on 11/27. *****Test results on narcotics seized during a traffic stop 11/20 were received and arrest warrants have been requested Hanna Kristine Meinecke, 30, and Michelle Bennet, 27, both of Lakewood, CO, for possession of marijuana- first offense (serious misdemeanor) and possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor)*. ***** An arrest warrant has been requested for Brayden Michael Habben, 18, of Grand Junction on a charge of possession of marijuana- first offense.* An officer removed and tested items seized during an accident investigation at Greene County High School on 11/15. *****An arrest warrant has been requested for Grason Trevor Lansman, 19, of Churdan for improper use of 9-1-1 (simple misdemeanor)*. Lansman was warned about using 9-1-1 for non-emergency calls. He continued to misuse 9-1-1 after the warning and was charged.*****Test results have come in on items seized during an arrest on an outstanding warrant. An officer arrested Margaret Jessica Ruth Wilson, 41, of Jefferson on 10/21 on a different warrant. During the arrest, the officer located a smoking device in her possession. The device tested positive for methamphetamine. The new warrant is for possession of methamphetamine- second offense (aggravated misdemeanor)*.
Monday, Dec. 4: At 9:42 am staff at Walton Woods apartments reported a trespassing complaint. An officer is investigating. At 9:42 am an officer noticed a person on probation with the Iowa Department of Correction drinking alcohol on the porch at his residence. Terms of his probation prohibit him from consuming alcohol. The officer administered a preliminary breath test and sent the information to his probation officer. At 11:04 am officers were called to assist at Greene County Elementary for a student who had walked away from the building. At 1:28 pm an officer took a report of an assault between two juveniles at Greene County Middle School. An officer is investigating. At 3:37 pm staff at Casey’s General Store (N. Elm St) reported a gas drive off. At 6:47 pm a complainant reported having a UPS package stolen from his residence in the 300 block of N. Pinet St. An officer is investigating. At 7:15 pm a complainant reported a possible car burglary in the 100 block of N. Chestnut St. At 11:50 pm officers checked a downed tree at the intersection of S. Vine and Park St.
Sunday, Dec. 3: At 12:28 pm while on patrol an officer located two males pushing a vehicle in the 700 block of W. Wall St. The officer stopped to assist the two males. The officer requested identification from the males. One male advised he did not have any with him and gave the officer a name and date of birth. The officer could not locate the subject in NCIC. He requested a Social Security number from the male, who fled on foot. The officer gave pursuit behind the male. The male ran to a residence in the 900 block of N. Pinet St and entered the residence. The officer detected the strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the residence and spoke with a male at the door. The male advised the male was inside the residence, but refuses to come out. The male advised he had smoked marijuana inside the residence earlier in the day and provided the officer with a smoking device and small baggy of a green leafy substance. The male who had fled from the officer came back outside. The 16-year-old male juvenile was arrested for interference with official acts and providing false identification to an officer (simple misdemeanors)*. Other officers and deputies arrived to assist. Officers stood by while a search warrant was typed up and signed. During the execution of the search warrant officers removed numerous narcotic related items for testing. Future charges are pending. Saturday, Dec. 2: At 5:58 am a complainant reported the theft of bags of clothing from a vehicle parked in the 400 block of E. McKinley St. The officer is investigating. At 7:48 am a traffic stop in the 1200 block of N. Elm St resulted in the arrest of Shawn J. Gifford, 27, of Jefferson for driving while barred (aggravated misdemeanor)*. The officer had Gifford’s vehicle towed to the impound lot. During an inventory an officer located a glass smoking device under the driver’s seat. The item was seized for testing. Future charges are pending lab results on the item. At 4:34 pm while on patrol an officer spotted a rooster in the roadway in the 100 block of E. McKinley St. The officer could not catch the animal. He checked with area residents but did not locate an owner. Jefferson city ordinances do not allow poultry to be kept within the city limits.
Friday, Dec. 1: At 11:37 am a complainant reported the theft of lights from his semi trailer while it was parked at Sparky’s. The lights were valued at $75. At 8:12 pm an officer performed a traffic stop on a vehicle at Wild Rose Casino. The officer knew the subject was wanted on an outstanding JPD warrant. Bradley Jon Vanwyk, 64, of Ames was placed on custody on a warrant for burglary- third degree (aggravated misdemeanor)*. The charge is the result of an investigation initiated 11/06 of a burglary at Power Lift.
